Never Sitting in the Shade

Never Sitting in the Shade

By Adam Mundorf

A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.  A legacy to leave the world is what matters.  It doesn't matter how big a house, how fancy a car, how nice a purse or how many shoes you owned.  What matters is that you plant trees for those who come after so that they can enjoy the shade.  When did people become so selfish?  I've met many powerful men and women, who have passed away with nothing to show for a successful life.  They lived life with diplomas, fancy offices in huge skyscrapers, palaces in the Hamptons and McLarens.  Shortly after death all of these things were auctioned off and sold.  No foundations, no grants, no gifts and no LEGACY.  They say you die twice. Once when you stop breathing and the second, a bit later on, when somebody mentions your name for the last time.  Swing past your local cemetery sometime and you will see those who were 'powerful' in life but were swiftly forgotten in death.......

Plant trees so others can sit in the shade even though you may never see the fruits of your labor.  Have a plan larger than life itself.  Have a long view for you are just a blip in the grand scheme of life.  Earmark your money for those who come after and die assured that you are leaving the gift that keeps on giving.
