Can You Do It At Your Worst? : Rub Some Dirt On It and Weakening of Society : Indomitable Human Spirit

By Adam Mundorf

Resiliency
Resiliency seems to be a rare word these days.  The ability to keep on going even when things are less than ideal.  People are becoming weaker and more fragile than ever.  They need more time off, have more aches/pains, think being frequently congested/sick is the norm and needing pain meds or medicine is normal.  They think drowning out the day with alcohol and drugs is normal.  What in the world is going on?

I've always prided myself on having resiliency.  I never need days off, I can perform all day without food, never been injured and rarely sick.  The haters say never say never but I will say never.  I have a carefully curated approach that keeps me this way and it transcends the physical realm but rather is a combination of spiritual power and poise.  I may not be the best at the moment but I can go forever, you can count on me being there no matter how bad things get.

In the next section, I'll share my approach to resilience.

Can You Do It At Your Worst?
Whether through luck or fate, I have always been obsessed with the concept of antifragility.  I think it all began when I first read the Warrior Diet by my friend Ori Hofmekler.  He brought the concept of intermittent fasting back to the forefront in the early 2000s.  It really got me thinking about how people perform when the situations are dire or less than ideal.  Very early on in my foray into physical culture I began to deprive myself of fuel but still held my strength to a high standard.  This made my strength permanent and inherent.  No matter how beat down I am, I will always be strong.

I don't care how you perform when you're all fueled up and well rested.  How do you perform when you have no fuel and the stakes are high?  That is strength that reaches and is potent.

Rub Some Dirt On It and Weakening of Society
People treat minor inconveniences with major attention.  Sometimes life hurts but very rarely is the setback permanent or severe.  People will take pain medicine for simple bumps and bruises.  They will coddle themselves and give up because of a cut.  They will tweak their back and refuse to accept the fact that moving through the pain makes it better while inactivity makes it worse.  I have found over the years of working physical jobs, ignorance is bliss.  You bump your knee hard as fuck, keep on going and the pain goes away.  You mess your nail up, trim that shit up and move on.  You have a cold, hydrate and power through.  Rub some dirt on it and finish the job.  If soldiers can get shot and keep on advancing, so can you.  Trust me, you will know if an injury truly requires medical attention.......you will know.

I've been noticing a weakening of society for quite a while and I attribute it to various things.  It obviously starts at school.  We live in a litigious society.  People love to sue for anything and everything.  This starts to make people bubble wrap everything to avoid lawsuits.  This flows into things like physical education, there is no more physical education.  Dodgeball is banned due to perceived bullying.  Running the mile is now optional.  Playgrounds no longer have risky obstacles of heights and hard landings forcing kids to confront their fears.  I've spoken to many teachers who also are afraid to discipline their students because of the parents thinking their kid can do no wrong and it quickly turns into a 'he said - she said' thing.  It leads to a lack of accountability, discipline and victim mentality that makes horrible human beings of questionable character who fail under the easiest of circumstances.  I don't judge the younger generation for it but rather judge society for humouring the professional victim culture.

Indomitable Human Spirit
I've always been a believer in spiritual power and soul.  The ability to keep on going even when you think you have nothing left.  People vastly overestimate how much the physical realm matters when the real body is within the soul.  Every person on Earth has divine energy inside of them to really tap into when the stakes are high.  Think of mothers lifting cars off of their children and soldiers seemingly taking insurmountable injuries but still completing the mission.

It's very rare if I ever have to use an indomitable spirit because the stakes are rarely that high.  This is a huge reason why my training is no longer about strength, muscle and power.  Rather my approach is based around health, restoration, longevity and resiliency.  My training is not fear based.

I will always be as strong as I need to be because my soul makes it so.
